Working draft, September 28, 2026. For Cultivate-run gatherings (weekly integration circles and other events Cultivate offers directly). Completed with an emergency contact. Kept on file for members and guest accounts (renewed yearly); completed each time by people who prefer to stay out of the system. Practitioner-run events handle their own attendees. Not legal advice; attorney review pending.
Participation Agreement for Cultivate Gatherings
Cultivate gatherings work because everyone in the room agrees to care for them together. These agreements take a few minutes to read, and they're the same for everyone who attends.
1. What this is. Our gatherings offer facilitated conversation and peer support around integration. They are not therapy, counseling, or medical care, and they don't replace them.
2. Come clear-headed. Please arrive free of alcohol and other substances that alter your state. This doesn't apply to prescribed medications or to microdosing plant medicines. No illegal substances are used or shared at any Cultivate gathering.
3. What's shared here stays here. Keep what others share confidential. You're welcome to talk about your own experience of a gathering, but not about anyone else's. Facilitators keep what you share confidential too, except if someone's safety is at risk. [Attorney to confirm exceptions]
4. Listen before you respond. Let people finish. Offer advice, interpretation, or feedback only when someone invites it.
5. You're always at choice. You can speak, pass, or simply sit and listen, and you can step out of the room at any time.
6. Take care of yourself, and let us know. You're responsible for your own wellbeing during and after a gathering. If you're struggling, tell the facilitator. If you need support and can't safely get home on your own, we may contact your emergency contact.
7. Respect everyone's boundaries. Ask before any physical contact. Please don't take photos or make recordings.
8. Keep it non-commercial. Please don't sell, recruit, or promote services at gatherings, and never offer or ask about sourcing substances.
9. The facilitator holds the circle. Facilitators may redirect a conversation, or ask someone to leave a gathering, if these agreements aren't honored.
10. Your participation, your responsibility. You take part in Cultivate gatherings at your own risk. Cultivate and its facilitators are not responsible or liable for outcomes related to your participation. [Attorney review]
[Checkbox, required] I've read these agreements and agree to them.
[Emergency contact: name, relationship, and phone required; email optional]
Helper text: Please choose someone other than yourself: a person we could call if you needed support during a Cultivate gathering. We hope never to use it, and we'll only reach out if it would help you.
System (Gregory): pre-fill the person's own name and email for members and guest accounts, and flag the entry if the contact's phone or email matches theirs.
Open notes
- Sobriety (item 2): sober attendance expected, excepting prescribed medications and microdosing plant medicines. "No illegal substances" leaves room for gatherings such as an herbalist's workshop where people ingest legal plant preparations (Gina, September 28).
- Attorney question: Cultivate is built around people who have taken scheduled substances, and it's not Cultivate's business where or how they got them. Agreement 6 in the application draft says Cultivate "does not endorse, promote, or supply illegal substances"; Gina isn't sure "endorse or promote" is honest. Ask the attorney how to word this truthfully.
- Confidentiality exceptions (item 3): attorney to confirm what exceptions apply.
- Liability (item 10): attorney review, alongside New Mexico's approach to releases (see Berlangieri v. Running Elk Corp., 2003).
- Item 4 echoes the Philosophy page's point about rushing to fix or change the subject.
- Item 5 echoes the Philosophy belief that people are always at choice, and the Gatherings page's welcome to people who only want to sit and listen.
